United Airlines To Cut 17 Routes Due To Pilot Shortage
United Airlines is set to cut routes, in May and June, in certain hubs across the United States due to the worsening pilot shortage. It will exit in the following hubs:
- Bismarck, N.D., Charlottesville, Va., Jackson, Miss., Pasco, Wash., and Redmond-Bend, Ore
- Allentown, Pa., Lexington, Ky., Madison, Wis., Oklahoma City, and Pensacola, Fla.
- Alexandria, La.
Several regional airlines have also cut a number of flight routes citing the same reason. “We are seeing high attrition,” said Horizon pilot Ben Frazier who is also executive council chairman of the airline’s chapter at the Teamsters. The carrier lost roughly 150 pilots during the year ending in mid-February, he added. Horizon employed 816 pilots at the end of December.
