Piedmont Airlines offers Pilots over $180,000 in bonuses as recruitment and retention package!

Pilots who choose to join Piedmont Airlines’ exceptional aviation team can earn over $180,000 in bonuses as part of an unprecedented recruitment and retention package. With a tentative agreement between Piedmont Airlines and ALPA leadership, today’s announcement offers pilots increased stability in an industry rocked by uncertainty over the past 18 months.

“Piedmont is making an enormous investment in our business and our pilot group,” said Piedmont CEO Eric Morgan. “This is an important step in building a post pandemic, sustainable airline that can thrive well into the future.”

“Piedmont pilots have delivered excellent performance throughout the pandemic, consistently leading all other regionals in the American Airlines regional partner portfolio,” said Steve Keefer, Vice President of Flight Operations. “Their service to Piedmont and our customers in this difficult time has allowed us to maintain our flying and step up to fly additional routes when travel demand increased. We are proud to watch them continue their careers at American as we welcome a new group of pilots to Piedmont to begin their journey.”

Thanks to creative collaboration between the Air Line Pilot Association (ALPA) and company leaders, Piedmont was one of the few airlines that did not furlough pilots during the COVID-19 crisis and in fact, was tapped by American to expand flying into new markets, including Chicago.  Piedmont continues to be a top-rated airline on performance, reliability and likely to recommend.

Piedmont plans to announce an updated cadet program for pilots and is testing an aircraft maintenance training program for aspiring mechanics. “The key to building a sustainable airline is securing our skilled workforce, creating policies that will help our team members navigate the pandemic and accepting that our new reality is much different in a post-COVID world,” added Morgan.

“Piedmont’s secret weapon has always been the ability to adapt and move forward, and that’s what we’re doing.”

Employees will be rewarded if they refer an applicant that is later offered a position.

For instance, employees can receive 20,000 ‘Southwest Airlines Gratitude {SWAG} Points if a referral is offered a position and completes six months with the carrier,’ the airline said, adding that those points can be redeemed online,” this just manifests that the demand continues through the roof and airlines are strategizing on ways on how they can recruit staff.

Jet Airways commences hiring process but mum on which type/s of aircraft it will operate as it resumes operations

An article from Simple Flying on the 4th of August reports that Jet Airways is now near to relaunching its operations and will now be commencing its hiring process. Accordingly, Jet Airways has published a form to hire ‘experienced pilots’ for its operations. Interested pilots have to fill the form with all their pertinent details including type rating, license validity, medical exam, flying hours, among others. The airline has not indicated yet how many pilots it will hire and whether or not it will give priority to ex-Jet Airways employees.

“The form accepts type ratings for the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, along with widebodies like the 787, A330, and 777. The end of the form only requests further details about the A320 and 737 ratings, which are the most likely aircraft to be chosen for restarting operations,” the report said.

Southwest Airlines Wants To Grow But One Constraint Remains

Southwest Airlines is sitting in a really great position. With the worst of the crisis behind it, leisure passengers have come back, small- and medium-sized businesses are sending employees on the road again, and travel restrictions have started to come down. With the environment improving, Southwest Airlines is in a position to grow. However, according to CEO Gary Kelly, there is one open-ended question on whether or not the carrier will be able to grow.

Southwest Airlines’ four categories for growth

In order to grow, CEO Gary Kelly stated on the carrier’s second-quarter earnings call that it is looking at four big categories to drive that growth:

  • Airplanes
  • Airports
  • Money
  • People

Essentially, Southwest Airlines needs to have the airplanes to fuel that growth. After ticking that box, the airline then needs to turn to airports and ensure they can get the gate space, the counter space, and other infrastructure support systems. These two are some of the basic requisites for growth from the airline operations side of things.

Turning then to money, growth comes at a cost. The carrier needs money to invest in the new aircraft to fuel growth, the airport infrastructure, and it will need to devote a sizable marketing budget to spread awareness in the new communities it adds services to.

The last question then comes down to people. Southwest Airlines needs to have the staff in each location – from ramp staff to gate agents to check-in agents – to handle the carrier’s operations. On the latter two points, Mr. Kelly stated the following:

“We’ve got money…we have more money right now than I thought we would three months ago or six months ago. So I’m feeling really good about the balance sheet and our liquidity, and I think you’re down to…people resources, and that I think we’ll be our constraint.”

With this, “It has asked the Ministry of Civil Aviation to give serious thought to setting up new institutes for pilot training and to revamp the existing institutes by providing modern simulators and also augmenting their capacity intake of students.”
