Australia – The Australian Aviation Summit 2025 will be held at Ilumina, Sydney on Thursday, 14 August 2025. The event aims to facilitate cross-sector collaboration on pressing industry challenges including supply‑chain disruption and workforce shortages.

The Summit will feature a panel discussion on “Addressing talent shortages in the Australian aviation industry” with panel participants being:

Air New Zealand Appoints Nikhil Ravishankar as CEO, Effective October 2025

New Zealand – Air New Zealand has announced the appointment of Nikhil Ravishankar as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective 20 October 2025, succeeding Greg Foran, who steps down after nearly six years at the helm.

  • Ravishankar currently serves as Chief Digital Officer at Air New Zealand and has been with the airline for almost five years.

  • His appointment follows an extensive international search, with the board selecting him for his people leadership, digital expertise, and global perspective, as well as his strong alignment with New Zealand values.

  • Ravishankar previously held senior roles as Chief Digital Officer at Vector and Managing Director at Accenture, bringing broad infrastructure and technology experience to the CEO role.

Global – Boeing has reported second quarter (Q2) 2025 results, highlighting a significant increase in commercial aircraft deliveries and production, with revenue reaching $22.7 billion.

  • Boeing delivered 150 commercial aircraft in Q2 2025, up from 93 in Q2 2024, driven primarily by increased output in the 737 and 787 programs.

  • The 737 production rate has reached 38 aircraft per month, with plans to request approval to scale to 42 per month later this year.

  • The 787 program continues at a stable seven aircraft per month production rate.

  • Boeing recorded 455 net commercial orders in Q2, including:

    • 120 Boeing 787s and 30 Boeing 777-9s for Qatar Airways

    • 32 Boeing 787-10s for British Airways

  • Commercial Airplanes division reported $10.9 billion in revenue, with a (5.1%) operating margin, reflecting higher deliveries offset by ongoing cost pressures.

  • Global Services revenue reached $5.3 billion with a 19.9% margin, supported by performance mix and new contracts, including:

    • Sale of its Gatwick MRO facility

    • Delivery of P-8A training systems for the Republic of Korea Navy

  • Boeing’s total company backlog increased to $619 billion, including over 5,900 commercial aircraft valued at $522 billion.

  • Operating cash flow was $0.2 billion, and free cash flow stood at ($0.2) billion.

Global – Global flight training group Airways Aviation, which operates pilot training academies across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and India, has highlighted that it has signed an agreement with Diamond Aircraft for the acquisition of five all-electric eDA40 training aircraft. The agreement was formalised during the 2025 Paris Airshow.

  • The eDA40 is the first EASA/FAA Part 23 certified all-electric aircraft designed specifically for flight training. It offers electric propulsion, reduced noise, and substantially lower direct operating costs compared to conventional trainers.

  • Airways Aviation plans to integrate these aircraft across its global campuses as part of a broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and operational costs while maintaining high training standards.

  • The company highlighted that airlines and clients are increasingly looking for training partners that adopt efficiency, technology, and sustainability as core priorities.

  • Delivery timelines for the five eDA40 aircraft were not disclosed but are expected to coincide with the type’s certification timeline, which targets entry into service in the coming years.
