Lufthansa Aviation Training Unveils First D-CEET VR Prototype in 2025

Germany – Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) has unveiled the Virtual Reality (VR) prototype of its groundbreaking research project, the Digital Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (D-CEET), ahead of its official debut at the European Aviation Training Summit (EATS) 2025 in Lisbon. The Euro 2.4 million project—funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) and co-financed by Lufthansa Aviation Training—represents a major leap toward data-driven, competency-based cabin crew training aligned with ICAO’s CBTA framework.

  • D-CEET is being developed in collaboration with ETH Zurich’s geoGAZElab, Edelweiss, and PACE Aerospace Engineering & Information Technology GmbH, a member of the TXT Group. PACE is responsible for developing a digital twin of the Airbus A320neo, providing the technological foundation for a realistic simulation environment.
  • The system combines scientific validation, VR-based immersive training, and a mobile companion app, forming a fully integrated digital learning ecosystem.
  • The first prototype to be showcased at EATS 2025 (November 4–6, 2025) will feature the Emergency Evacuation Land Scenario, one of 15 modular VR training environments covering dynamic emergency events such as cabin decompression, onboard firefighting, and passenger evacuation procedures.
  • The platform’s adaptive design allows airlines to tailor modules to their specific SOPs, aircraft configurations, and brand identities, while adjusting difficulty levels to suit individual or team performance.
  • ETH Zurich provides scientific oversight, ensuring the system meets the highest methodological, ethical, and training-effectiveness standards through validated behavioral analytics.
  • D-CEET’s VR framework enables objective, scalable performance assessment by tracking behavioral indicators in real time, supporting competency-based training and assessment (CBTA) methodologies recommended by ICAO.
  • The accompanying mobile app reinforces knowledge retention by offering personalized, data-driven learning paths and performance feedback—bridging classroom, digital, and live training environments.

Statements

  • “With D-CEET, we are creating a new dimension of learning – data-driven, immersive, and individually scalable. This allows us to combine the highest training standards with innovative technology and scientific validation.” – Sophie Cyba, Project Lead D-CEET, Lufthansa Aviation Training
