European Training Aircraft Lessor Delivers First Elixir Aircraft to Flight School in Greece

Greece – Aircraft leasing company Green Aerolease has expanded its footprint into Greece by delivering the first of twelve Elixir Aircraft to Egnatia Aviation, a prominent flight training organization. The handover took place on April 9, 2025, during the Aero Friedrichshafen air show in Germany.

  • Egnatia Aviation has ordered twelve Elixir Aircraft, with six scheduled for delivery in 2025 and the remaining six in 2026
  • The aircraft are leased through Green Aerolease’s turnkey solution, which includes rental, insurance, maintenance, and carbon offsetting
  • The Elixir Aircraft features a Rotax 912 100 hp engine and a glass cockpit, offering enhanced safety, performance, and comfort
  • The new aircraft will be based at Egnatia Aviation’s training center at Kavala-Amygdaleon Airport

Utah, United States –Alpine Air Express, one of America’s largest all cargo regional on demand contract airlines, has shared that it welcomes Epic Flight Academy’s new training location at its headquarter airport at Provo Municipal Airport (PVU). Epic Flight Academy is one of Alpine Air’s flight school partners. The move is set to strengthen Epic Flight Academy’s presence in the western United States and increase accessibility to its flight training programs.

“Looking forward to one of our flight school partners joining us at our headquarters in PVU!” shared Bob Frisch, Chief Operating Officer at Alpine Air.

Epic Flight Academy, the Florida headquartered flight and aircraft maintenance training group, is currently expanding to nine campuses across the United States. Becoming the largest FAA Part 141 flight school network footprint in the country, the expansion includes three newly approved locations in Colorado, Utah, and Alabama.

  • New Campus in Centennial Airport (KAPA), Englewood, Colorado

  • New Campus in St. George Regional Airport (KSGU), Utah

  • New Campus in Tuscaloosa National Airport (KTCL), Alabama

  • Grand openings for the new locations are scheduled for June and July 2025.

  • Epic’s existing flight training locations are in: New Smyrna Beach (Florida), Jacksonville (Florida), Ocala (Florida), Tallahassee (Florida). Tucson (Arizona) and Addison (Texas).

  • Epic employs 245 staff nationally, including 118 flight instructors, and prioritizes the recruitment of Epic-trained instructors to maintain instructional quality and consistency.

In addition to the growing flight training base network Epic Flight Academy has submitted a letter of intent for self-examining authority.

Ireland – Simulator training center operator Simtech Aviation and flight school National Flight Centre (NFC) have announced a strategic partnership to enhance airline-focused pilot training in Ireland. Under this agreement, NFC’s ATPL(A) Integrated Pilot Programme students will complete their EASA Airline Pilot Standard Multi-Crew Cooperation (APS MCC) training at Simtech Aviation.

  • The partnership integrates Simtech’s APS MCC course as the final stage of NFC’s ATPL(A) Integrated Pilot Programme.
  • NFC modular students will also have access to Simtech’s EASA APS MCC and MCC/JOC courses, tailored to their specific training pathways.
  • Simtech Aviation operates a fleet of fixed-base and full-motion simulators, including Boeing 737-800NG, Airbus A320, and ATR72-600, at its 1,860 sqm facility near Dublin Airport.
  • Simtech’s APS MCC course includes 4 days of ground school and 40 hours of simulator training on the Boeing 737-800, preparing cadets for airline assessments and type ratings.

Cathay Pacific Celebrates the Graduation of its First Batch of Cadet Pilots whose Ground Theory Training was Provided by Cathay Academy

Hong Kong – Cathay Pacific was delighted to celebrate the graduation of its latest batch of cadet pilots who completed the Cadet Pilot Training Programme. It also marks the very first time that graduates’ ground theory training was conducted in-house by Cathay Academy, demonstrating Cathay’s expertise in creating and delivering tailored and comprehensive training.

In addition to the theoretical ground training, these cadet pilots also underwent flight training at AeroGuard Flight Training Center in Arizona and Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC) training in flight simulators with Cathay Academy before graduating from the programme. These 34 graduates have since joined Cathay Pacific as Second Officers and commenced flying duty. Currently, there are more than 500 cadet pilots in training as part of the Cadet Pilot Training Programme.

Cathay Chief Operations and Service Delivery Officer Alex McGowan welcomed Civil Aviation Department Acting Director-General of Civil Aviation Clara Wong as the guest of honour at the graduation ceremony, which was held on 16 May at the airline’s Cathay City headquarters.

Acting Director-General of Civil Aviation Clara Wong said: “For over 35 years, Cathay Pacific’s cadet pilot training programme has served as a cornerstone for nurturing local aviation talent. From engaging more flying schools around the world, to having theory courses taught by local institutions, and now Cathay Academy, together we are making history. This evolution aims to make pilot training more effective, efficient and sustainable.”

Cathay’s Alex McGowan said: “Developing aviation talent has always been a priority for Cathay. Our Cadet Pilot Training Programme provides us with world-class aviators, many of whom have gone on to hold senior training positions with us, as well as key flying leadership roles.

“Today’s graduation carries special significance as it marks our first group of cadet pilots to go through our very own Cathay Academy ground school, including Multi Crew Cooperation training in our simulators. This enables us to ensure the highest quality training, get closer to our future pilots, and enrich their overall experience. It also expands our ability to develop future generations of aviation talent locally.

“Our sincere appreciation goes out to the Transport and Logistics Bureau and the Civil Aviation Department for their unwavering support.”

Cathay Pacific currently operates multi-path integrated courses for training its cadet pilots, including courses developed with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and its in-house Cathay Academy. Each course sees cadets first undertake theoretical ground training, then flight training at AeroGuard Flight Training Center in Arizona or Flight Training Adelaide in Adelaide, followed by multi-crew simulator training also developed by Cathay Academy at the airline’s Cathay City headquarters in Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific’s Cadet Pilot Training Programme was launched in 1988. Graduates of the programme include 185 Captains, more than 40 of whom are Training Captains. The airline also has seven management pilots who originated from this programme.

Since 2022, the Cadet Pilot Training Programme has provided training for more than 1,000 cadet pilots. As Cathay continues to play its part in elevating Hong Kong’s status as a leading international aviation hub, it targets to recruit more than 130 cadet pilots in 2025 as an airline Group.

United Arab Emirates – In an announcement made during the Women in Aviation Middle East Conference & Awards on Thursday, May 8, 2024, Intercontinental Aviation Academy (IAA) introduced its new Women in Aviation Middle East Scholarship Program. The initiative is aimed at empowering women from Arab countries to pursue professional careers in aviation and marks a significant step forward in fostering inclusivity within the industry.

Held at Sheikh Saeed Hall 1, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and co-located with the renowned Airport Show, the conference gathered global aviation leaders, distinguished female professionals, and aspiring students under the theme: “Charting the Future and Beyond: Collaborating for Change.”

IAA’s Chief Executive Officer, Captain Wissam Mehyou, and Ms. Mervat Sultan, President of the Women in Aviation Middle East Chapter, jointly launched the scholarship on stage in front of an international audience of industry stakeholders and aspiring aviators.

“This scholarship reflects our shared commitment to creating opportunities, breaking barriers, and shaping a future where women lead and thrive in aviation,” said Captain Mehyou during the launch.

Scholarship Highlights:

  • One (1) Full EASA ATPL Modular Program
    A comprehensive training scholarship valued at over USD 105,000, covering all tuition and flight training necessary to obtain a full Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
  • Ten (10) Fully Sponsored Fundamentals of Aviation Courses
    Introductory programs valued at a collective USD 35,000, designed to give young women foundational knowledge and early exposure to aviation careers.

An Advisory Board, chaired by Women in Aviation Middle East, will oversee the review and selection process. The scholarship will be open to women and youth from Arab countries, with a strong emphasis on expanding access to aviation education and careers across the region.

Applications for the scholarship program will officially open at the end of May 2025, with winners to be announced at the Annual Women in Aviation Middle East Meeting in November 2025. All training will be conducted at IAA’s state-of-the-art facilities in the United Arab Emirates.
