US Flight School CEO Says Industry is Working to get Accreditation from the U.S. Department of Education
AeroGuard Flight Training Center CEO Joel Davidson told the US News Channel KXAN that the Flight School Association of North America (FSANA) is working to get accreditation for the flight school industry from the U.S. Department of Education, and he hopes that effort will lead to funding. Davidson is on the Flight School Association of North America’s (FSANA) board of directors, serving as the organization’s treasurer.
“The federal government does not consider independent flight training schools to be accredited educational institutions. So therefore, students who attend our flight school and other flight schools are not eligible for the financial aid programs or loan programs that you would get in normal university,” said Davidson.

According to AFA, Atlantic Aviation is one of the sponsors providing complimentary fuel and announced a $100,000 scholarship program for five students to obtain their private pilot certification. On the other hand, Mayo Aviation awarded a $20,000 university scholarship, distributed over four years, to a student in the program to pursue a career in professional aviation.
The “Every Student Flies” innovative program introduces every Aspen High School Student to the world of aviation careers, beginning with an introductory flight with a Certified Flight Instructor in a Diamond DA40 aircraft.
After each flight, students will be given a tour of the Aspen Airport’s FAA Control Tower and two onsite companies, West Star Aviation and Atlantic Aviation.
Each student will be provided with a “takeaway” package full of information about aviation careers, college programs, flight training opportunities, and student scholarships.

US Air Force Educate High School Aspiring Airmen in Flight Simulator Program
The simulators allow roughly 20 students to practice flying more than 10 different types of airframes, allowing familiarization with basic aircraft operations.
“This program gives students the opportunity to see if they enjoy flying and provides a foundation if they do pursue a career in aviation,” Lomeli said.
Students also have the opportunity to learn about engineering practices and problem-solving, as well as the innovations and technological developments that have made today’s aviation possible. Even if students do not want to fly someday, this class introduces concepts that could lead to interest in a variety of STEM-related fields.
Stacey Davis, AHS science instructor, explained how the simulators provide a chance to inspire the next generation of pilots.
“The students have an opportunity to learn real life situations in a controlled way,” Davis said. “It inspires them and gives them confidence. For some students, it has been the spark to pursue a career as a pilot, and it all starts here in this class.”
