Job Summary

OSM Aviation Academy is seeking a safety-focused and driven aviation professional to join its leadership team as Head of Flight Operations / Base Manager for its FAA Part 141 flight training facility at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE).

This position involves both the administrative oversight of daily training operations and followup flight instructions. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality ground and flight training, ensuring compliance with FAA standards, and supporting student progress in a safe, professional, and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities & Instructional Duties

  • Deliver ground, flight, and pre-/post-flight instruction in accordance with FAA Part 141 regulations and the school’s approved Training Course Outlines (TCOs)
  • Prepare students for knowledge, proficiency, and practical tests (Stage Checks, End-of-Course Evaluations, FAA Check rides)
  • Conduct stage checks and proficiency flights (if authorized)
  • Maintain high instructional standards of safety, compliance, and professionalism
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate training records, and provide regular feedback

Administrative & Leadership Duties

  • Manage the day-to-day training operations and scheduling at the KFXE base
  • Supervise and support flight instructors and operational staff
  • Ensure full compliance with FAA regulations, TCOs, and OSM internal standards
  • Support and participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new instructors
  • Collaborate with the management team to grow OSM Aviation Academy’s footprint and activities in the U.S.
  • Lead standardization and continuous improvement efforts in curriculum, safety practices, and instructor performance
  • Organize and attend instructor meetings, safety briefings, and internal audits
  • Act as the point of contact for base-level administrative coordination, including liaison with airport authorities and vendors

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
  • Preferably prior operational experience from Military and/or Part 121/135 operations
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII) – SE/ME/IR + FAA Medical Class I
  • Meet requirements outlined in FAA 14 CFR §141.35
  • Ability to pass a TSA background check
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship available)
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License

Qualification

To be considered for this role, you must meet the below requirements:

  • Degree or Honours (12+3 or equivalent)
  • 8+ yrs Flight Operations
  • Experience in Instructional Background.
  • Experience in the delivery of training either in a technical, educational institute or corporate training environment.
  • Relevant airlines flight operations knowledge gained through pilot, flight engineer, dispatch qualification or flight navigator experience preferred.
  • Have at least 3 years experience as a TKI delivering ATPL TK Subjects based on the EASA or UAE GCAA syllabus.
  • Has delivered at least 3 different ATPL TK subjects in an approved training organisation (ATO).
  • Sound knowledge of flight crew licensing regulations (EASA or GCAA preferable).
  • Self-motivated, with proactive and effective leadership and teamwork skills; ability to deal comfortably with various cultures is vital.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to interact well with trainees; MS Office experience.
  • Ability to adapt to paperless teaching methods.”

Job Outline

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Exercise operational control of all flight training courses under the direction of the HT and ensure that training is conducted in accordance with the approved syllabi to the required standards.
  2. Conduct regular inspections of training programs and student records as required by the HT and Compliance Manager, and advise on any changes required to the Operations and Training Manuals.
  3. Provide oversight and review training procedures and standards to ensure the maximum level of safety.
  4. Encourage and foster an attitude of safety awareness, hazard identification, and reporting, as well as suggestions to reduce/ eliminate hazards & risks.
  5. Assist in event investigations and report analysis, review safety findings and recommendations for possible implementation, such as risk mitigation or avoidance mechanisms.
  6. Identify and execute corrective and preventive actions following events to reduce the probability of recurrence, and review and respond to periodic safety reports.
  7. Monitor processes and procedures to determine their effectiveness in avoiding or managing risk.
  8. Cooperate with the SM for the resolution of hazard/ event reports, safety recommendations, corrective/ preventive actions.
  9. Verify that students meet the prerequisites for any flight course being undertaken and ensure the accurate and timely completion of flight training records and course requirements prior to arranging any skill test.
  10. The CFI may conduct flight training provided that the above responsibilities are accomplished.
  11. Any Other duties assigned by the Head of Training, Accountable Manager, and Management.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation or a related field.
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) with additional ratings (CFII, MEI preferred).
  • Valid ICAO Commercial Pilot License, including a minimum language proficiency level 4.
  • Valid ICAO Flight Instructor Endorsement/ Certificate.
  • Valid ICAO class 1 medical certificate.
  • Valid Single-Engine Piston, Multi-engine Piston Class, and Instrument Rating (including PBN privileges).
  • 1,000 hours as Pilot-In-Command; and 750 hours as Instructor Pilot.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum flight hours:
    • Total Time: 1200
      • PIC: 1000
      • IR: 100
      • ME Time: 300
      • ME PIC: 200

Preferably (not mandatory):

  • Airline Experience.
  • Taught previously within a large, professional flight academy.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a flight instructor, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Minimum of 1,200 flight hours, including 500 hours of dual instruction given.
  • Prior leadership or management experience in a flight school or aviation environment.
