German ATO Receives New Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer

  • One training device – two options: New Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (CEET) for the 777-9 and 787-9 models for LAT’s largest location Frankfurt
  • Transport weighing tons from Dubai to Frankfurt via ship across the Rhine River

Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) has received an addition to its fleet: A new Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (CEET) for emergency training on board the Boeing 777-9 and 787-9 aircraft models is getting its new home at the Frankfurt site. Spatial, a company based in Ras Al Khaimah / UAE, delivered the 22-ton and 18-meter-long training device to Frankfurt am Main in mid-April 2022. Via ship it went from the United Arab Emirates to the Main metropolis.

“Even though we had to wait a little longer for this new CEET due to the pandemic,” says Matthias Spohr, Managing Director of Lufthansa Aviation Training, “we are now all the more pleased to be able to offer our customers state-of-the-art and forward-looking training for the B 777 and B 787 aircraft types with immediate effect.”

The Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer is one of the most advanced of its kind. The CEET is equipped with an audiovisual system that provides a very realistic view out the windows. In addition, the new training device can trigger a virtual emergency slide, allowing for realistic training.

“Doors of the 777-9 model were installed in the front part of the training device, while the doors of a Boeing 787 were installed in the rear area. This division allows separate training sessions for both aircraft types to take place at the same time,” says Rainer Finette, Process Manager General Training Devices at Lufthansa Aviation Training.

Only the seating of the Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer is exclusively based on the 777 model. Unlike the 787, this aircraft type has four seats in the center section.

Originally, the training device was to be delivered to Lufthansa Aviation Training as early as 2020. However, the Corona pandemic and the brought-forward fleet introduction of the economical and environmentally friendly 787-9 model, the so-called Dreamliner, in the Lufthansa Group led to a delay, as the preconfigured CEET for 777-9 was adapted to a “combination training solution” for B 777-9 and 787-9. Crews have already been able to complete emergency training for the 787-9 model at the Frankfurt site since October 2021. A door trainer, a pilot incapacitation training device and a life raft are available to customers for this purpose.

CAE and Global Operator of Private Jets Sign Two-Way Organizational Cross-Training and Job-Sharing Agreement

  • CAE instructors to fly part-time for Clay Lacy
  • Clay Lacy pilots to conduct training and flight checks for CAE

CAE and Clay Lacy Aviation announced at the NBAA Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition that they have signed a two-way organizational cross-training and job-sharing agreement. This agreement calls for CAE instructors to be trained to company standards enabling them to fly with Clay Lacy, and for Clay Lacy senior pilots to be approved to conduct training and check flights for CAE. A business aviation industry first, this two-year cross-training and job-sharing agreement is an innovative solution to the increasing pilot demand while enhancing pilot training and overall operational safety.

“We are proud to be partnering with Clay Lacy Aviation on innovative solutions to deal with industry challenges like pilot recruitment and training standardization,” said Nick Leontidis, CAE’s Group President, Civil Aviation. “This agreement is an excellent example of how two industry pioneers like Clay Lacy and CAE can share their expertise on a training and job-sharing program that will benefit the two organizations, their employees, and ultimately, their customers.”

“The current state of the industry has provided a conduit for collaboration between companies who have the courage to lead change,” said Dondi Pangalangan, Clay Lacy Aviation’s Senior Vice President of Flight Operations. “The synergy through the training and job-sharing program enables industry-leading air carrier-specific training which increases safety margins and standardization with an agility to quickly and efficiently respond to customer needs.”

The agreement will enable select CAE instructors to fly for Clay Lacy while enjoying the stability of a home-based instructor position as their primary employment. In return, a select number of Clay Lacy pilots will conduct training and check flights on behalf of CAE, while maintaining their primary employment at Clay Lacy.

CAE and Clay Lacy Aviation enjoy a longstanding relationship. This partnership will allow CAE to offer its instructors the opportunity to maintain familiarity with everyday operations and Clay Lacy to establish training stability for increased standardization across its fleet – all while creating positive opportunities for employees at both companies.

Moreover, CAE is expanding its network to be closer to where its customers operate their aircraft. The newly opened Las Vegas training centre brings CAE closer than ever to Clay Lacy where its pilots will be welcomed to a state-of-the-art facility for a training experience that will allow them to operate to the highest standards in the industry.
