Global Airline Training Provider AAG Announces New Partnership with Indian FTO Blue Ray Aviation – Extending Operations in India

Alpha Aviation Group (AAG), a leading global provider of aviation training, is announcing a significant expansion of its operations in India, a key growth area for the business.

AAG is signing a Memorandum of Understanding at the Singapore Airshow with Gujrat, India based Blue Ray Aviation, a flight training organisation approved by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), to provide end-to-end training for commercial pilots. Blue Ray Aviation operating from the Mehsana airfield, operates a fleet of C172s and a Piper Seneca at state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities.

The joint venture will provide a one-stop training solution for airlines, streaming Blue Ray’s commercial pilot license (CPL) graduates to the AAG Centre for Aviation Training (ACAT) in Chennai, run in partnership with Anemos Aviation, where the CPL pilots are type rated on airline passenger aircraft.

In another highlight, ACAT has signed a purchase agreement with SIM International to acquire an A320 Neo Standard V2.1 simulator, ensuring that the training centre provides cutting-edge training opportunities for the Indian market. The centre in Chennai is currently operating at capacity and ACAT is investing heavily in advanced Level D flight simulators to meet the continuing rise in demand. ACAT plans to add a third A320 to its fleet in 2025, alongside a B737 Max.

Nearly 1,500 new commercial pilots will be required each year for the next three years as the airline industry in India continues to grow. Currently, 810 commercial aircraft are operating in India, but that number will increase to 1,430 by 2027, a 76% increase over three years.

ACAT is further expanding its training footprint in India by venturing into cabin crew training. ACAT is proud to announce the inauguration of its premier cabin crew training centre in Siliguri, strategically located as the gateway to the North-East states of India. With India set to receive more than 1,000 aircraft deliveries in the next decade, the demand for skilled cabin crew is estimated to exceed 25,000 personnel, and Siliguri is poised to become a pivotal hub for cabin crew recruitment.

The centre features the first A320 mock-up in the region, providing students with an immersive training experience, and has capacity to train 500 students annually. It is spearheaded by industry veteran Arlene Marwah, who brings more than 40 years of experience in aviation including leadership roles in Inflight Service Departments at multiple airlines.

AAG’s increased investment in India comes after a record post-Covid year for AAG (Philippines) with pilot cadet enrolments in the market increasing year-on-year by 55% in 2023. AAG has also announced new ventures in Singapore as it expands across Asia Pacific.

AAG Group COO Cristopher Magdangal said: “India is a very significant market for AAG because there is huge pent-up demand, and we are ramping up our operations accordingly. AAG has earned an outstanding reputation in Asia Pacific as a leading pilot training provider, committed to the highest standards. We are proud to work with major airlines across the region and we look forward to building new relationships with partners in India. Our partnership with Blue Ray Aviation, together with further investments in our existing facilities, will provide airlines with an end-to-end training offering. We are increasing our capacity so that we can cater to the growing needs of leading airlines; we are already delivering localised A320 training and in the future, we also plan to offer training on B737 Max Full Flight Simulators”.

Blue Ray Aviation Chairman Rajiv Gandhi said: “We are delighted to announce this joint venture with AAG, and we are excited by the potential to grow our partnership because our offering is unique in the Indian market. By combining our resources and expertise, we can offer a complete pilot training solution for the industry. We are confident that this offering will be very attractive to our existing partners and will help solve capacity issues in the industry”.

Aircraft Manufacturer Embraer Shares 2024 Perspectives

Brazil-based global aircraft manufacturer Embraer, the third largest commercial jet manufacturer, shared its perspectives for 2024.

  • 64 commercial aircraft deliveries for 2023
  • This is one unit short of its planned 65 to 70 target but it’s still 12% more than 2022
  • Goal is to return to around 90 annual deliveries which we achieved in 2018 and 2019
  • 2023 revenue was nearly the same as 2019, it is still only at 70% of pre-pandemic output
  • Working with suppliers to grow this year’s output target by double digits
  • “One sticking point is the pilot shortage. Fewer available pilots favours interest in bigger narrowbodies, and that creates a gap between those aircraft and the regional fleet. There have been a few soft years but the shortage seems to be resolving itself. That implies that we’ll see more demand for smaller narrowbodies which should fill in that gap. In the meantime, orders for the E175 in the USA remain strong since there isn’t movement on pilot scope clauses.”

Global Pilot Training Solution Provider CAE and Aircraft Manufacturer Inaugurate Asia Pacific’s First E-Jets E2 Full Flight Simulator

Aircraft manufacturer Embraer and global pilot training solution provider CAE officially inaugurated the Asia Pacific (APAC) region’s first E-Jets E2 full flight simulator (FFS) in Singapore. E-Jets E2 training is the latest program offered by the recently expanded Embraer CAE Training Services (ECTS) joint venture. The E2 training program will feature CAE’s competency-based training assessment (CBTA) courseware, interactive classroom instruction with the CAE Simfinity virtual simulator (VSIM), and immersive practical training in a new state-of-the-art CAE 7000XR Series FFS. The FFS is located at the Singapore-CAE Flight Training Centre near Changi Airport and will support E2 operators in the region.

Pilots from Singapore Airlines’ subsidiary, Scoot, have already begun their training in preparation of the Embraer E190-E2 aircraft’s entry into service with the airline later this year. Scoot pilots will experience all aspects of flight in CAE’s latest generation FFS and practice multiple scenarios to enhance their skills and preparedness ahead of the aircraft’s first revenue flights.

“We celebrate the successful operations of the E2 simulator and comprehensive pilot training program and thank all our partners and employees who have been involved in this process,” says Carlos Naufel, President & CEO of Embraer Services & Support. “This is part of Embraer’s commitment to grow our infrastructure in Asia Pacific and to contribute to the region’s aviation growth story. Along with CAE, we remain committed to providing high-quality training to our customers and their pilots.”

“The start of training and the official inauguration of the first state-of-the-art E2 full flight simulator in the Asia Pacific region is a significant milestone in the growth and success of Embraer-CAE Flight Training,” said Michel Azar-Hmouda, CAE’s Division President, Civil Aviation Training. “Technology is at the core of the new E2 program, with CAE’s VSIM, CBTA courseware and latest-generation FFS preparing pilots for the entry-into-service and safe operation of the E2 in the APAC region.”

“Embraer and CAE’s launch of the E-Jets E2 full-flight simulator in Singapore is the first of its kind in Asia Pacific. Not only does it add to the suite of aftermarket services in Singapore, it is a valuable addition to the region’s aerospace and aviation ecosystem. We look forward to collaborating with industry partners to build capabilities that fuel the growth in APAC and enhance the skills of aerospace and aviation talent in the region, from Singapore,” said Ms Elaine Teo, Senior Vice President, Global Enterprises Division, Singapore Economic Development Board.

The simulator was certified by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore in December 2023.

Complementing the E2 full flight simulator are classroom sessions that include interactive touch screen training that accelerates learning. The VSIM, a powerful familiarization and practice tool for pilot training that provides access to all the aircraft’s systems, is a significant enhancement to typical commercial pilot training. The VSIM can be used to simulate all manner of system functions by an instructor as a classroom and briefing tool, as well as by pilots for familiarization and individualized training.
