Alpha Aviation Group Philippines Hosts Subject Matter Expert Exchange for Air Force Fighter Training Squadron

Eleven (11) personnel from the 105th Fighter Training Squadron (FTS), 5th Fighter Wing (5FW), Philippine Air Force (PAF) visited pilot training group Alpha Aviation Group (AAG) Philippines last 09 June 2023 for a subject matter expert exchange (SMEE).

The 105th FTS personnel spearheaded by Ltc. Malbert Maquiling PAF are responsible for maintaining the 5FW’s FA50 Simulator Training Center at Basa Air Base. The SMEE aimed to provide the personnel with supplementary learning opportunities, allowing them to leverage best practices from the civil aviation sector and enhance their understanding of flight simulator maintenance and training center operations.

Victor Dufort (AAGP Simulator Maintenance Manager) gave a comprehensive overview of flight simulator maintenance and training center operations, outlining the roles and responsibilities of maintenance staff, the procedures for monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing simulator equipment, and the needs for successful operation and upkeep of the facility.

“The visit of the 105th Fighter Training Squadron is a testament to the strong ties between the civil and military aviation sectors, demonstrating the shared commitment to aviation advancement and illustrating mutual respect among aviators around the world,” shares Capt. Philippines based Alpha Aviation Group Cadet Pilots Undergo Jungle Survival Training

Cadet pilots of Alpha Aviation Group (AAG) Airline Pilot Program (APP) 05-2022 successfully completed the Jungle Survival and Survival Swimming (JS) training on 12 May 2023 at the PEACE Kamp Research and Resource Center.

The 2-day JS training is a non-academic component of the private pilot license (PPL) phase of the APP designed to enable the cadet pilots to learn wilderness survival techniques and apply them in possible emergency situations. The cadet pilots went through 12 hours of theoretical instructions and practical exercises on basic mountaineering, fire building, wildlife identification, wilderness survival techniques (including first aid and food foraging), and survival swimming which were administered by instructors composed of Aetas, an indigenous tribe in the Philippines, among the most skilled when it comes to jungle survival. A total of 26 JS training have been conducted since 2017.

“On top of acquiring knowledge and skills on survival, the JS training also provides our cadet pilots an opportunity to immerse with the local community. Social and cultural engagements are key components of our incipient environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiative,” shared Ma. Rufina Santos, AAG Philippines Head of Student Affairs and Client Relations.

Col. Rombaoa also highlighted the key features of the AAG White Paper: “Towards a Sustainable AFP Aviation Training and Maintenance Capability Build-Up” published in 2021, including the latest initiatives towards adherence to the concept of Performance Based Logistics (PBL) and proposals to establish a Disaster Management Training Center and a Joint Military Simulator Training Center. He also introduced AAG’s proposal to revitalize the PADC through appropriate private sector interventions.

Philippine Naval Air Wing Pilots Undergo G1000 Familiarization at Alpha Aviation Group

Thirteen pilots from the Naval Air Wing (NAW) Philippine Navy underwent a Garmin G1000 Familiarization Course at the Alpha Aviation Group Philippines (AAGP) Simulator Training Center using the Alsim AL172 MKII FNPT II.

The familiarization training covered equipment systems overview, normal and emergency procedures, and instrument flight rules (IFR). The NAW pilots also visited AAG’s approved maintenance organization (AMO) support facility for a subject matter experts exchange (SMEE) on aircarft maintenance, safety and test flight standards.

“The training is part of our ongoing engagement with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as we aim to provide cost-effective, relevant and sustainable training solutions to the Navy, Air Force and Army along with the other uniformed services,” shared Col. Christian Barela (Ret.), Project Manager, Defense Division, AAGP.

The first and only one in the country, the AL172 represents a Cessna 172SP Skyhawk NAV III aircraft equipped with the Garmin G1000® NXi avionics suite, meeting both FAA FTD level 5 and EASA FNPT II requirements for maximum credit hours. It offers a close-to-reality experience, simulating conditions and scenarios that are beyond the envelop of most generic IR simulators.
