Scotland’s Largest Training Academy Expands with the Addition of Two New Tecnam P-Mentor Aircraft

Tecnam announced that the renowned Scottish flight training academy ACS Aviation ordered two P-Mentors to be added to their current fleet to expand their fleet capabilities in 2023.

The company will also become the first Tecnam aircraft service centre in Scotland offering specialist aircraft maintenance and technical support to its customers. The move follows a period of high growth for ACS Aviation where a record number of graduates have secured positions as first officers with leading UK airlines.

The P-Mentor is the latest design from Tecnam: a single engine IFR  two-seater aircraft, offering flight schools  a simple and sustainable single platform solution for student pilots; from their first flight up to advanced training including the instrument rating.

The P-Mentor not only provides a highly cost effective platform on which most  of the training syllabus can be completed, with the Rotax 912iSc, it also offers the lowest fuel consumption and CO2 emissions currently available for IFR training thus further enhancing the renowned profitability of operating a Tecnam fleet.

By choosing the P-Mentor as their go to training platform, ACS Aviation is embracing the new philosophy in flight training offered by Tecnam. This fleet expansion will not only improve the quality of training and reduce the costs for its students, but also help to preserve the environment. Recent study shows that flight schools operating with TECNAM single engine fleet can reduce emissions by up to 60%. This equates to10 tons of CO2 for each student by the time they receive their Commercial Pilot License.

“Tecnam’s P-Mentor aircraft will allow us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint in Commercial Flight Training and Upset Prevention Recovery Training with the added benefit of state-of-the-art instrumentation that will help us propel, even further, into our sustainable double-digit growth. This order is the start of a long-term fleet replacement and sustainability plan which will see us continue to grow the business and provide our student pilots with the latest technology over the coming years,” said Craig McDonald, Technical Director at ACS Aviation.

“Oriens Aviation is delighted to welcome ACS Aviation to the Tecnam family as the launch customer for the P-Mentor in the British Isles and the first service centre for Tecnam in Scotland. ACS is known for providing premier flight training services to customers and we look forward to growing our partnership with ACS Aviation for all Tecnam aircraft service needs and technical support in Scotland,” said Edwin Brenninkmeyer, CEO, Oriens Aviation – The exclusive Tecnam Authorised Sales and Service Centre for the British Isles.

“Tecnam has always provided an excellent combination of technical specifications and value for money. With the P-Mentor, Tecnam has taken a huge leap forward with the addition of an affordable and smart IFR trainer. This will change the entire pilot training industry for IFR training,” said Tecnam’s Chief Sales Officer, Walter Da Costa.

US Flight School Invests Into Expanding Aircraft and Simulator Training Infrastructure

Paragon Flight Training a flight training academy based at Page Field in Fort Myers, Florida, continues to expand its flight training tools to meet ever growing industry demand for skilled commercial pilots. On November 17, the Paragon Flight leadership team traveled to Vero Beach to pick up a new Piper Seminole, an aircraft model essential for commercial pilot training.

“We are thrilled to take possession of our own Piper Seminole; it’s an exceptional twin engine aircraft for commercial pilot flight training,” Paragon Flight Training President Chris Schoensee said. “Purchasing this plane after years of leasing earlier versions is a pivotal moment for Paragon Flight as we bolster our capacity for commercial pilot training in a year that has seen explosive growth.”

The Seminole will be utilized as part of Paragon Flight’s Professional Pilot Program (P3), a FAA-accredited program for accelerated professional pilot training launched by Paragon Flight in February 2022. The company has already exceeded its 12-month recruiting goals for the rigorous P3 program, affirming the interest in professional pilot training as both demand and salaries rise.

For decades, the Florida-made Piper Seminole has set the benchmark and firmly established itself as the ultimate multi-engine training aircraft in the world. Its reliability, simplistic design, and predictable flying characteristics make for easy transitioning from single to multi-engine.

“Piper Aircraft is happy to have Paragon Flight as a member of the Piper Flight School Alliance. We are honored to serve as a fleet partner for Paragon Flight, a school with an outstanding training curriculum and a state-of-the-art, new-production fleet, providing increased value to their students,” Ron Gunnarson, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Piper, said.

To complement training on the Seminole, Paragon Flight has also purchased a Frasca flight training device, which will be delivered in early summer 2023.

“We chose Frasca as our partner for the Seminole device because when it comes to ultra-realistic, high-fidelity training devices, they are second to none – and this device is the absolute best in the world at what it does.” Schoensee said. “It features an exact button for button-for-button replica of the Seminole’s cockpit and characteristics, making it a deeply immersive and positive training experience. Students quickly acquire knowledge, skills and proficiency in the device, making the transition into multi-engine aircraft for the first time as fast and affordable as possible.”

Rounding out Paragon Flight’s year of investment in superior training aircraft and technology, the company remains on target to pick up the final four of the ten previously announced new Piper P100i aircraft in December.

Largest US Flight School Adds 500th Aircraft to Fleet with Delivery of New Cessna Skyhawks

On Thursday, ATP Flight School took delivery of five new Cessna Skyhawks and surpassed the fleet milestone of 500 aircraft. Each new plane brings ATP students a state-of-art training platform with Garmin’s G1000 NXi Integrated Flight Deck. The Skyhawks join the 86 new aircraft ATP has taken delivery of since 2020 and will be used exclusively for airline pilot training and career development.

ATP’s investment in new aircraft is paired with equal investment in flight safety and monitoring. ATP recently completed a 40% expansion of its operations center in Jacksonville Beach, FL, to accommodate growing safety and quality assurance teams. To support the safe operation of 500 aircraft, ATP’s safety department integrates an airline-based Safety Management System (SMS) and provides Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) through real-time oversight of all training flights using ADS-B technology.

“Reaching the milestone of a 500 aircraft fleet is significant, not just in scale, but for the operational support required to provide a safe and dependable training environment for our students,” said Michael Arnold, Director of Marketing, ATP Flight School. “The capabilities and advancement of ATP’s flight operations center mirror that of airlines, with maintenance, flight operations, flight safety, flight standards, and quality assurance teams working in unison to promote a high level of safety and support for our students. The milestone of 500 planes is only made possible through the commitment each ATP team member has to the training success of our students and providing a reliable state-of-art fleet operated in a safety-focused environment.”

As the leading provider of new hire airline pilots, ATP’s fleet expansion will increase capacity to graduate 20,000 airline pilots by 2030. Deliveries of an additional 85 new aircraft are scheduled throughout 2023 and 2024.
