Simaero Launches CBTA Services to Support Airlines Through Training Transformation

19th Jan 2026

Global– Simaero announced the launch of CBTA Services to Airlines, a dedicated service designed to help operators transition to, or further mature, Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) and Evidence-Based Training (EBT) approaches. Following the announcement of Simaero’s own transition of its Approved Training Organizations (ATOs) to CBTA, the company is extending its expertise to partner with airlines as they make the same transition.

A Partner-Led Approach to CBTA Implementation

CBTA is not a plug-and-play solution. It requires a strong understanding of competency frameworks, course design, instructional and assessment philosophy, and performance evaluation, as well as the ability to translate standards into training that works in real operations. Simaero’s approach is built on partnership rather than packaged products, working alongside each airline to develop training that is compliant, operationally relevant, and sustainable over time.

“Our role is to be a practical partner for airlines making this transition by helping them build programs that reflect their fleet, operating environment, and training objectives,” said Patrice Galinier, Group Training Director at Simaero, whose background includes extensive expertise in aviation Human Factors. “CBTA is a shift in mindset and method, and it takes consistency and clarity across the training system to make it work.”

Strengthening Airline Readiness and Autonomy

The CBTA Services offering supports operators at different stages, from airlines that have not yet started their CBTA journey to those with established Baseline EBT Seeking to integrate CBTA in their ATO for type rating programs for instance. Simaero helps airlines understand their position in the transition, what they require, and co-develop solutions that align with operational and regulatory needs. In practice, this includes helping airlines master CBTA philosophy and principles, translating operational and regulatory requirements into training design decisions, and building robust full CBTA-compliant courses.

Level of support can be tailored to the airline’s level of internal involvement and can cover CBTA and EBT together, CBTA only, or EBT only. In all cases, the goal is to turn CBTA standards into operationally viable programs while strengthening long-term autonomy—without creating dependence on a third party.

“Successful CBTA implementation depends on connecting the framework to concrete application,” said Cédric Coffignal, Training Manager France and CBTA/EBT Subject Matter Expert (SME) at Simaero. “We focus on helping operators build robust CBTA-compliant programs that stand up to operational and regulatory reality, without falling into “CBTA-like” shortcuts.”

Building on Simaero’s internal CBTA implementation

Simaero recently announced its own transition toward full CBTA across its ATOs. Its expert teams are currently developing a full CBTA Type Rating Program, with rollout anticipated by summer 2026. Designed as a scalable benchmark, the program is intended to be adapted to each client’s fleet and training objectives, while supporting a structured, consistent approach to CBTA implementation.

With CBTA now embedded at the core of its training methodology, Simaero is positioned to partner with airlines seeking to modernize their training systems and build long-term internal capability.
