South Africa's Alt Academy Partners with University of Pretoria Aerospace Society

South Africa – Johannesburg-based aviation training organisation and simulator training centre Alt Academy has announced a partnership with the University of Pretoria Aerospace Society (UPAS), aimed at supporting the development of future aviation professionals and strengthening engagement between students and the aviation training industry.

• Established in 2005, the University of Pretoria Aerospace Society provides undergraduate and postgraduate students with opportunities to engage in aviation and aerospace-related activities, including industry events, networking and professional development.
• The partnership connects Alt Academy's professional aviation training activities with the university's aerospace student community.
• AFM previously reported that Alt Academy CEO Ryan van Wijk identified limited early exposure to aviation and funding barriers as challenges to developing Africa's future aviation workforce during a March 2026 AFM Pilot Training Leadership Interview. The academy has expanded its operations to include ab initio flight training alongside its established airline simulator training activities.
• Alt Academy's simulator training infrastructure includes full flight simulator capabilities for the Airbus A320ceo/neo, Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 Classic, supported by Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 fixed-base simulators. The company also provides initial and recurrent type-rating training, multi-crew training and other pilot development courses.
