Training Aircraft Manufacturer’s Electric Aircraft Selected by Transport Canada to Undergo Operational Trial

06th Jan 2023

Pipistrel Aircraft is proud to announce that their EASA-certified Velis Electro aircraft has been selected as part of the limited number of operational trials initiated by Transport Canada. The trials will assess the use of Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) that meet the European Union Aviation Safety Agency standards (CS-LSA) in a flight training environment.

Transport Canada’s main objectives are to:

  • Promote innovation and the use of novel technology
  • Encourage the competitiveness of Canadian flight schools
  • Support the broader initiative on climate change and reduction of emission (CO2, lead, noise and other pollutants) whilst maintaining a high level of safety.

“This is a positive leap forward in sustainable flying and we look forward to helping facilitate profound research into the benefits of green aviation,” said Pipistrel Aircraft in an announcement.
