US Airline Owned Flight School Announces Extended Reality Pilot Training Partnership

02nd Mar 2023

Vertex Solutions, a leading developer of high-fidelity learning technology, including extended reality (XR) pilot training, and United States based Republic Airways’ LIFT Academy announced the integration of Vertex Immersive Training Devices (ITDs) into LIFT Academy’s cutting-edge training curriculum to increase the throughput, rigor, and efficiency of LIFT’s already industry-leading pilot training program.

LIFT Academy’s innovative spirit and accelerated flight training approach are a perfect match for the integration of Vertex Solutions’ ITDs and simulator support services. Proven by the US Department of Defense (DoD), Vertex ITDs have shown a 40% decrease in training time, a 70% decrease in time to solo, and a 15% increase in performance—results that directly align with LIFT’s vision for increasing the efficiency of their flight training program to meet industry demands. LIFT Academy recognizes that this partnership—a first for pilot schools—will sustain them as a leader in flight training. For Vertex, this partnership opens a new pathway into commercial aviation, proving the dual-use versatility of their military offerings in the commercial sector.

” LIFT Academy has been a technology leader in the commercial pilot training industry from day one,” shared Ed Bagden, Director of Operations and Academic Programs at LIFT Academy. “We are proud to work with Vertex Solutions, bringing technologies demonstrated to drive success by the United States military to our academy and students.”

For both DoD and commercial aviation, the high cost and limited availability of current Flight Training Devices (FTDs) and Full Flight Simulators (FFSs) have created barriers to achieving the number of pilots industry demands. The lightweight, small-footprint Vertex ITD improves student access by allowing a more widely spread distribution of devices, and its truly immersive learning environment prepares pilots for safer, more efficient aircraft evaluations. The use of Vertex ITDs in USAF undergraduate pilot training has shown up to a 70% decrease in the time it takes students to get to their first solo flight. Not only that, students retain information at a much higher rate, decreasing error rates during initial check rides, significantly increasing the training value of those flights.

The XR ITD developed by Vertex Solutions, combined with LIFT Academy’s innovative, cutting-edge flight training program, will become the standard in commercial aviation training.

“Vertex Solutions’ partnership with LIFT Academy is our next step toward revolutionizing the aviation training industry. We are excited for the opportunity to transfer training performance improvements we demonstrated in the US Air Force and Navy to a commercial airline. Investment by commercial aviation will further build military confidence in XR pilot training technology, creating a symbiotic, dual-use ecosystem. ”
