“Before COVID, there were too many pilots. A lot of them retired, they haven’t gotten back into it,” said Jim Barrett, owner of Leaf Air, a flight school in Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport, as cited by News10.

He said that the current pilot pipeline, among other reasons, contributes to the looming pilot shortage.  Hence, airlines are putting in place higher pay and other monetary incentives to get more pilots.

Now may be a perfect time to become a pilot, said Barrett. “They’re desperately looking for qualified pilots.”

However, Leaf Air emphasized that there could be an influx of pilots in the future.

The flight school recently held “Learn to Fly with Leaf Air” which provides individuals discounted rates to get into the flight training experience.
