CAE’s President Shares Thoughts with Canadian Media Outlet

Global pilot training solution provider CAE’s President and CEO shared his thoughts with Canadian News Paper Toronto Star – key highlights were;

  1. Addressing the Pilot Shortage: The aviation industry faces a significant shortage of aircrew, including pilots, maintenance technicians, and cabin crew. CAE’s aviation talent forecast indicates a need for 1.3 million new aviation professionals globally within the next decade, with 300,000 required pilots. There are about 350,000 pilots flying today. CAE collaborates with financial institutions to provide financing for aspiring pilots, enabling them to pursue their training and securing job opportunities with partner airlines upon completion.
  2. Promoting Diversity: CAE actively supports diversity in the aviation sector. The Women in Flight Ambassador program selects talented young women globally, sponsors their flight training, and connects them with partner airlines. These women become advocates, encouraging more young women to pursue careers as airline pilots.
  3. Efficiency and Cost Reduction: CAE’s vast scale, conducting over 1.3 million hours of airline training annually, enables airlines to outsource training efficiently. Six of the seven largest U.S. airlines utilize CAE’s training centers, unlocking efficiencies that lower their operational costs.
  4. Technological Solutions: CAE develops software to assist airlines in managing crew schedules, handling disruptions, and optimizing operations. This technology aids airlines in minimizing disruptions caused by factors such as weather and ensures a smoother experience for passengers.

The issue of pilot fatigue has become a pressing concern in India, prompting significant attention from aviation authorities and industry players. Pilots have expressed their worries regarding work-related stress and adherence to duty time regulations, leading the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to initiate a pilot fatigue data review to assess existing flight duty time regulations.

“The issue of pilot fatigue demands urgent intervention, with DGCA’s decision to conduct a review of pilot fatigue, the insights would help airlines as well as pilots. As the industry grows, it is very important that safety drives the policy changes – from pilot fatigue to MRO. Going beyond traditional scheduling-focused computational models, we can leverage personal health trackers to ensure fitness – there are many ways to ensure that pilots and the passengers are safe,” said Jaideep Mirchandani, Chairman of aviation conglomerate Sky One FZE to Indian local media.

“Such initiatives will contribute to providing timely breaks and leaves for pilots and the crew. Crew rostering solutions also enable pilots to specify lifestyle preferences, which are then automatically integrated into their flight schedules,” added Mirchandani.

He also emphasised the need for incorporating advanced fatigue management into the training module for pilots. “In addition to technology-based training, aspiring pilots should receive insights into the scientific reasons behind fatigue. Training about key indicators and guidance on developing effective fatigue management strategies for both themselves and the airlines,” he said.

The P2012 Multi-Engine operations over water provide a significant safety advantage in the remote Pacific areas of operation, while benefitting of the Traveller’s very competitive operating costs, and thus making the P2012 a perfect match for the operational needs of the Company.

Known for offering its customers the ultimate in luxury and safety, Pacific Air Charters, Inc. is the premium provider of air charter services within the Hawaiian Islands and American Samoa. The first P2012 Traveller, immediately after its arrival to Hawaii, demonstrated the platform versatility when a series of wildfires broke out in the US state of Hawaii in early August 2023, mainly on the island of Maui. The aircraft, operated by Pacific Air Charter Inc, had only been in Hawaii for 10 days when it was used to transport and deliver thousands of pounds of desperately needed food, medicine and other supplies to Maui and, on the return flights, evacuating those needing medical attention in Honolulu.

In recent days, Pacific Charter’s first P2012 has been transferred to operations in Samoa under the “Pago Wings” brand and has set another ferry range and endurance record for the type, flying 2261 nm in 15h05′ over the ocean between Kailua-Kona and Pago Pago.
