Dubai, United Arab Emirates based airline Emirates announced an order for 15 additional Airbus A350-900s at the Dubai Airshow 2023, worth US$ 6 billion. This takes Emirates’ total A350 order book to a total of 65 units.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates airline and Group said: “The A350-900s will add to our fleet mix and we are pleased to announce additional orders for this aircraft type. We plan to deploy our A350s to serve a range of new markets including long-haul missions of up to 15 hours flying time from Dubai. We will work closely with Airbus and Rolls-Royce to ensure our aircraft deliver the best possible operating efficiency and flying experience for our customers.”

The first A350 is scheduled to join Emirates’ fleet in August 2024, and with today’s additional orders, Emirates will receive A350 deliveries until early 2028.
Including its order for 95 additional Boeing aircraft on Monday, Emirates will have a total order book of 310 wide-body aircraft.

Emirates has wrapped up a successful 2023 Dubai Air Show, concluding a week of significant investment announcements in its future fleet and capabilities, and inking new partnerships that signal confidence in what’s ahead.
Already the world’s biggest operator of wide-body passenger aircraft, Emirates announced significant orders to grow its fleet and power the airline’s future growth plans in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33). Confirming an order for an additional 90 Boeing 777-9s, 777-8s, and 5 787s, worth US$ 52 billion and 15 additional Airbus A350-900s, worth US$ 6 billion, Emirates now has a total order book of 310 wide-body aircraft and will continue to receive delivery of new aircraft through to 2035.
Emirates also announced a US$ 950 million investment to build a new ultra-modern engineering facility at Dubai World Central (DWC) that is purpose-built to support Emirates’ aircraft fleet and operating requirements into the 2040s. Spread over 1 million square metres, the engineering complex will be the largest and most advanced of its kind to be operated by any airline, adding a boost to Dubai’s world-class aviation infrastructure.
Underscoring the importance of the aviation value chain, Emirates inked significant agreements with long-standing and new partners. The airline awarded a series of contracts to Safran worth US$ 1.2 billion combined to furnish Emirates’ new fleet of Airbus A350, Boeing 777X-9 and its existing Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with the latest generation Safran Seats. In addition, the contracts with Safran include exclusive services for cabin equipment, wheels and carbon brakes, landing gear component repairs, retrofit, and MRO support.
To ensure its highly popular A380 fleet remains in tip-top condition, Emirates signed over US$ 1.5 billion worth of agreements to optimize the double-decker jet’s lifespan. Capitalizing on the expertise of partners across the aviation aftermarket and MRO services spectrum, the airline also signed agreements for maintenance, repair and overhaul services, parts provisioning, component repairs and technical support to ensure the A380 fleet continues to meet Emirates’ exacting standards, well into the next decade.
Developing the UAE’s engineering talent pool, Emirates and the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA)’s commercial and training arm, the International Aviation Consulting and Training (IACT), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to curate bespoke training solutions.
Emirates and Boeing signed a MoU to leverage advanced digital technologies, including drone assisted aircraft inspections, the use of virtual and augmented reality to hone precision and effectiveness, and ushering in the next generation of prognostic and predictive maintenance.
Boosting connectivity options for customers, Emirates and Condor, activated a reciprocal interline agreement that will offer customers access to 70 routes operated by both airlines across Europe, Africa, Asia, Australasia and the Middle East, with a single ticket fare and hassle-free baggage policy.
At the Dubai Airshow, Emirates had a visible presence in the lead of the spectacular opening flypast; as well as through its static aircraft displays; an exhibition stand showcasing the latest in extended reality and AI immigration innovation. Over the airshow week, Emirates welcomed thousands of visitors to its stand and aircraft, and hosted guests at the Emirates Chalet.
Showcasing the latest in employee experience, Emirates debuted MIRA, which uses extended reality (iXR) to train new joiners. Emirates was honoured to showcase this technology to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai when he visited the Emirates stand.
On its static display, Emirates displayed its full family of aircraft, which proved popular with visitors. Emirates was proud to receive His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi for a tour of the four-class A380.
In addition to the A380, Emirates displayed the game-changer Boeing 777-ER and the recently launched private charter, the Embraer Phenom 100. Emirates Flight Training Academy exhibited the latest training aircraft including the Diamond DA42-VI and the single engine Cirrus SR 22. Over 43,500 people visited Emirates aircraft throughout the week.

Emirates opened the Dubai Airshow 2023 with a significant order for 95 additional wide-body aircraft, taking its total order book to 295 aircraft.
Already the world’s biggest operator of wide-body passenger aircraft, Emirates has committed to additional Boeing 777-9s, 777-8s, and 787s, worth US$ 52 billion, to power its growth plans, maintain a modern efficient fleet, and deliver the best flying experience to its customers.
In the presence of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and Deputy Ruler of Dubai and HH Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council; the orders were signed by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates airline and Group; with Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes; and Larry Culp, Chairman and CEO for GE, and CEO of GE Aerospace.
HH Sheikh Ahmedsaid: “From day 1, Emirates’ business model has been to operate modern and efficient wide-body aircraft capable of carrying large numbers of travellers comfortably and safely, over long distances to and via Dubai. Today’s aircraft orders reflect that strategy.
“These additional aircraft will enable Emirates to connect even more cities, supporting the Dubai economic agenda D33 set out by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to add 400 cities to Dubai’s foreign trade map over the next decade. By the early 2030s, we expect the Emirates fleet to be around 350-strong, connecting Dubai to even more cities around the world.”
Emirates’ Boeing order
Emirates, already the world’s largest operator of Boeing 777 aircraft, has signed firm orders for 55 additional 777-9s and 35 777-8s. This takes the airline’s 777-X order book to a total of 205 units.
Emirates also confirmed an order of 202 GE9X engines to power the additional 777X aircraft ordered today, taking its total GE9X engine order to 460 units.
From its previous order of 115 units, the first 777-9 is expected to join Emirates’ fleet in 2025. Today’s additional orders mean Emirates will induct new 777-9s to its fleet until 2035.
With this latest order, Emirates is also set to be one of the launch customers of the 777-8 passenger variant, with first deliveries expected in 2030.
HH Sheikh Ahmed said: “Emirates is the biggest operator of Boeing 777 aircraft, and today’s order cements that position. We’ve been closely involved in the 777 program since its start up until this latest generation of 777X aircraft. The 777 has been central to Emirates’ fleet and network strategy of connecting cities on all continents non-stop to Dubai. We are pleased to extend our relationship with Boeing and look forward to the first 777-9 joining our fleet in 2025.”

The 777 remains the backbone of Emirates’ operations, capable of missions of up to 18 hours that enable the airline to connect Dubai non-stop to cities on six continents. The new 777-9s and 777-8s will replace Emirates’ retiring 777 aircraft, and provision for the airline’s future growth plans.
Emirates has also updated its previous order of 30 Boeing 787-9s, increasing its commitment to a total of 35 Dreamliners comprising: 15 Boeing 787-10s, and 20 Boeing 787-8s.

UAE Based Airline, flydubai, Places Orders for 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, Its First Widebody Airplanes
Boeing and flydubai announced an agreement to purchase 30 787-9 Dreamliners as the airline diversifies its fleet with the introduction of widebody jets. In a signing ceremony at the Dubai Airshow, the Dubai-based carrier said it plans to use the efficient 787 to open new routes and grow capacity on existing routes.
“In 2008 when we placed our first-ever order for 50 Boeing 737 aircraft, we were confident of the vital role flydubai would play in supporting Dubai‘s aviation hub,” said His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai. “I am proud today to see flydubai evolve further, surpassing labels and challenging the traditional conventions around travel. Today’s order reaffirms flydubai’s commitment to enabling more people to travel across its expanding network. The highly fuel-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner will allow flydubai to expand its horizon and cater to the growing demand on existing routes.”

The 787-9 can fly 296 passengers 14,010 km (7,565 nautical miles) in addition to more cargo. Since revenue service began in 2011, the 787 family has launched more than 380 new nonstop routes around the world. Half of all 787 Dreamliner flights are operated in short- and medium-haul markets below 5,000 km (2,700 nautical miles), demonstrating its versatility and efficiency across all network segments.

flydubai currently operates an all-737 fleet of 79 airplanes. The airline has an order backlog of 137 737s.
According to Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook, the Middle East airplane fleet is projected to more than double over the next 20 years. Nearly half of these deliveries will be widebody airplanes, driven by the region’s growing position as an international air transit hub.
