Global Flight Training Group Airways Aviation’s Campus in France Enhances Refueling Capacity in 2024

Global flight training group Airways Aviation, which operates pilot training academies across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and India has shared that Airways Aviation ESMA, Airways Aviation Group’s aviation and flight training base in Montpellier, France, has announced the installation of a new 3000-liter Jet A1 bowser, complementing their existing 1000-liter bowser, and supporting the airport fuel services provided by TotalEnergies.

This action will increase Airways Aviation’s capability of quickly refuelling the fleet, reducing important time and increasing aircraft availability to perform training flights.

United Kingdom based pilot training educational material publisher Padpilot has announced a major update to its ATPL(A) theoretical knowledge materials.

This comprehensive update reflects Padpilot’s commitment to providing the most up-to-date, effective resources for student pilots undertaking commercial pilot training.

The revisions address recent regulatory changes from EASA:

  • Amendment 10 to Executive Decision 2020/018/R: This amendment introduces changes to the theoretical knowledge (TK) syllabus, as outlined in the Appendix to AMC & GM to Part-FCL, Issue 1, Amendment 10 ED Decision 2020/018/R, released in January 2024
  • TK Syllabus Comparison v.5 and ECQB 2024 Amendment 5: These documents identify amended learning objectives and introduce new questions to all subjects in the European Central Question Bank (ECQB).

In addition to regulatory compliance, Padpilot’s book updates incorporate significant enhancements from the editorial team and subject matter experts following a thorough review of the 2nd Edition ebooks, first published in 2020 for the EASA 2020 TK syllabus.

The new book content will feature new explanations, images, and formatting for easier studying, will be released during July 2024 to both the Padpilot eReader platform and Padpilot’s Apple Books 2nd editions.

Existing users will be able to download the book updates free of charge in the usual way. Padpilot’s accompanying resources for pilot training providers, including classroom presentation slides and supporting documentation, will also benefit from the new content and regulatory updates.

Simulator Manufacturer Simnest Delivered Romania’s First A320-based FNPT II MCC Simulator

FlightPath Aviation Training, a newly established aviation training center in Bucharest, Romanian has acquired Romania’s first A320-based type-representative FNPT II MCC simulator from Simnest Aviation. The device has already been installed at the FlightPath training base located in the immediate vicinity of Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport.

FlightPath Aviation Training was established to fill a long-standing gap in pilot training in Romania by being the first in the country to offer the APS MCC training, the most preferred training for airlines. To launch this niche training, they needed a type-representative simulator of uncompromising quality, reliability and durability.

After a thorough market survey, during this spring FlightPath Aviation Training chose Simnest Aviation’s renowned flagship product, the Simnest A320 FNPT II APS MCC. The fully enclosed simulator with high-definition laser projectors, OEM sidesticks and seats, and a seat shaking system was installed by Simnest Aviation at the FlightPath training base next to Bucharest’s Henri Coandă International Airport.

During my MCC training, I would have loved to have had the opportunity to choose APS, but unfortunately it was not an option back then. Finishing pilot training and starting my first jet flights I have noticed myself the gap in training and the lack of operational knowledge required to ease this transition. Flight Simulator Manufacturer HAVELSAN to Attend Farnborough International Airshow 2024

Ankara, Turkiye headquartered flight simulator manufacturer HAVELSAN will deploy a team to the Farnborough International Airshow 2024. Since the beginning of 2024 HAVELSAN delivered a number of Boeing B737MAX and Airbus A320 full flight simulators and achieved subsequent EASA certification of devices – to date HAVELSAN devices have supported the training of over 8,600 airline pilots since going into operation.

Displaying its ability to provide flexible solutions to airlines and independent training centers – HAVELSAN announced earlier this year that it had entered into a collaboration with Turkish Airlines to set up a Turkish Airlines training center location in Ankara, Turkiye.

HAVELSAN is especially putting focus on providing industry leading after sales support and discussing with customers long-term cooperation projects. HAVELSAN is currently actively seeking additional airline or training center operators to share information about its products and the unique offering that it can provide.

Simulator Manufacturer, MPS, Shares 2024 Update and Insight on the EASA Rulemaking Task 0196 and NPA 2020-15

Implementing new regulations takes years of focused teamwork, a process I am heavily involved in and committed to. Although it has been a while since I updated you on EASA Rulemaking Task 0196, many important steps towards finalization have taken place since publication of NPA 2020-15 in December of 2020. A Focused Consultation just took place last month, so in this blog I will bring you up to speed on developments and give some further insight into the process.

Since I last shared a dedicated blog on this topic, the comment period for NPA 2020-15 opened. This is a lengthy but crucial step in the process. Comments have since been received from National Authorities, affected parties and many individuals. Based on these comments and the Terms of Reference of the team, EASA and the teams have been creating the rule-text and applicable AMC and Guidance material. There are three teams; one team is focused on CS-FSTD, one team is focused on ARA/ORA, and the final team, which I lead, is focused on training.

After working to create the proposed rules, we gathered as a group during the week of June 17th for a Focused Consultation. This was successfully completed with mostly positive comments from participants.

The next steps include additional Focused Consultations on specific items, for example on the final version of CS-FSTD, which is being created by the group led by Olli Hanninen from Traficom, and the opinion from EASA to the European Commission to establish European regulations.

There are already several changes from the original proposal which will have an impact on the training industry. For instance, we have made the change from 12 to 14 features (in coordination with the CS_FSTD team) to ensure better separation between some associated items, such as controls. These have been separated between “Primary Controls Forces and Hardware” and “Primary Flight Controls System ”.

On the training side, we have finished a thorough review of EASA Appendix 9 and have identified the required FCS for each individual task at both the “Training” (T) and “Training to Proficiency” (TP) levels. The TP level replaces the initial proposal of “Testing and Checking” (T&C) and serves as a requirement of FCS to which all training tasks must be completed.

The additional work that has been done by the RMT includes proper incorporation of “Hard Law”, Acceptable Means of Compliance and Guidance Material for Competent Authorities with regards to implementation of all these changes.

For the training community, one of the major changes is that unlike before, there will be no time restriction on the use of any specific device. The previous requirement that a Type Rating should be a minimum of 32 hours, of which 16 should be completed in a Full Flight Simulator, is no longer applicable in this proposal, as the FCS rather than the device type will be leading. In essence, this will allow any organization to optimize their training via the Task-to-Tool philosophy and minimize cost while optimizing quality and efficiency. I foresee future Type Ratings to be performed on a multitude of devices, with only the “Pre-Check” and the actual Skill Test being performed in a “heritage” FFS, a significant improvement.

While this work is still ongoing and in the final stages of creation of the Opinion, I do want to take the opportunity to thank those who have contributed to this effort. It has been a long road. We started this effort almost 10 years ago, and it has taken a lot of work from the people below. It is always risky to mention some and not others, but these people deserve the credit for sure:
