CAE’s President Shares Thoughts with Canadian Media Outlet
Global pilot training solution provider CAE’s President and CEO shared his thoughts with Canadian News Paper Toronto Star – key highlights were;
- Addressing the Pilot Shortage: The aviation industry faces a significant shortage of aircrew, including pilots, maintenance technicians, and cabin crew. CAE’s aviation talent forecast indicates a need for 1.3 million new aviation professionals globally within the next decade, with 300,000 required pilots. There are about 350,000 pilots flying today. CAE collaborates with financial institutions to provide financing for aspiring pilots, enabling them to pursue their training and securing job opportunities with partner airlines upon completion.
- Promoting Diversity: CAE actively supports diversity in the aviation sector. The Women in Flight Ambassador program selects talented young women globally, sponsors their flight training, and connects them with partner airlines. These women become advocates, encouraging more young women to pursue careers as airline pilots.
- Efficiency and Cost Reduction: CAE’s vast scale, conducting over 1.3 million hours of airline training annually, enables airlines to outsource training efficiently. Six of the seven largest U.S. airlines utilize CAE’s training centers, unlocking efficiencies that lower their operational costs.
- Technological Solutions: CAE develops software to assist airlines in managing crew schedules, handling disruptions, and optimizing operations. This technology aids airlines in minimizing disruptions caused by factors such as weather and ensures a smoother experience for passengers.

Hawaiian Air Charter Company Exercises Option for Another Tecnam P2012
Italy headquartered aircraft manufacturer TECNAM is proud to announce the confirmation of the fourth P2012 aircraft by Pacific Air Charter Inc. in Hawaii. Having taken delivery of the first Traveller in August 2023, immediately followed by the second in September 2023, and the third aircraft in the process of being delivered at the Tecnam plant in Capua – Italy, with this fourth aircraft, the fleet of Pacific Air Charters Inc. is growing rapidly to serve the Pacific market.
The P2012 Multi-Engine operations over water provide a significant safety advantage in the remote Pacific areas of operation, while benefitting of the Traveller’s very competitive operating costs, and thus making the P2012 a perfect match for the operational needs of the Company.
Known for offering its customers the ultimate in luxury and safety, Pacific Air Charters, Inc. is the premium provider of air charter services within the Hawaiian Islands and American Samoa. Passenger comfort was a key factor in the operator’s decision: All single seats are generously pitched with dedicated window and seat amenities, USB port, cup holder, seat pocket, armrest; dual air conditioning (which can also be operated on the ground via a DC power connection to “pre-cool” the aircraft prior to boarding) offer limousine levels of comfort and convenience.
The first P2012 Traveller, immediately after its arrival to Hawaii, demonstrated the platform versatility when a series of wildfires broke out in the US state of Hawaii in early August 2023, mainly on the island of Maui. The aircraft, operated by Pacific Air Charter Inc, had only been in Hawaii for 10 days when it was used to transport and deliver thousands of pounds of desperately needed food, medicine and other supplies to Maui and, on the return flights, evacuating those needing medical attention in Honolulu.
In recent days, Pacific Charter’s first P2012 has been transferred to operations in Samoa under the “Pago Wings” brand and has set another ferry range and endurance record for the type, flying 2261 nm in 15h05′ over the ocean between Kailua-Kona and Pago Pago.
Pat McNamee, Pacific Air Charters, Inc. Chief Operating Officer and 135 Director of Operations, said, “We are thrilled to be innovating the air transportation market in the area with a modern aircraft. The P2012 Traveller confirmed that this is the perfect platform for our operations. We are focused on premium services, but the aircraft offers many additional capabilities and expands our options.”
“Tecnam is bringing an efficient solution with a safe, reliable, multi-mission aircraft to the needs of the local communities in Hawaii and American Samoa. The fourth P2012 aircraft order confirmation is a recognition of the immediate benefits that Pacific Air Charter Inc has gained since the first Traveller acquisition. And with this last 15-hour ferry flight between Kailua Kona and Pago Pago, we have set a new record for a Tecnam!” Said Francesco Sferra, Tecnam P2012 – Special Mission Platforms Sales & Business Development Manager.

Global Pilot Training Solution Provider CAE and Sun Air Jets Collaborate on New Pilot Development Program
Global pilot training solution provider CAE and Sun Air Jets announced at the National Business Aviation Association Conference and Exhibition that they are collaborating on an innovative Pilot Development Program (PDP) to enhance safety and address the increased need for business aviation pilots. Launched in Morristown, NJ, in July 2023 with courses developed for King Air’s 350 pilots, this new Sun Air Jets program allows young pilots to gain flight hours and experience by operating flights as second-in-command (SIC) on aircraft that do not require more than one pilot.
The program allows pilots to obtain invaluable on-the-job experience as they build their hours and progress to becoming a pilot-in-command (PIC). Several pilots have already graduated to PIC thanks to their participation in the CAE program, and many more will have a similar opportunity at Sun Air Jets.
“We are very excited to implement this pilot development program at Sun Air Jets to enhance safety within our operations and to meet the demand for pilots and workforce challenges”, says Ed Fares, Director of Operations at Sun Air Jets. “This Pilot Development Program will help provide additional qualified pilots while increasing overall safety. The program is designed to bring beneficial operating experience to our young pilots allowing them the opportunity to grow into bigger jet aircraft and build a strong foundation as a safe and professional pilot.”
“With the increased demand for business aviation pilots, CAE is committed to working in partnership with operators like Sun Air Jets to ensure they have the highly trained pilots needed to maintain safe and efficient operations,” said Alexandre Prevost, CAE’s Division President – Business Aviation and Helicopter Training. “We are thrilled to bring this innovative pilot development program to life with the Sun Air Jets team as it not only gives young pilots a way to build their hours and gain experience, but it also allows them to fly with more seasoned colleagues and benefit from their knowledge, resulting in safer operations.”
According to the National Business Aviation Association, the SIC PDP, found in amended Federal Aviation Regulation (“FAR”) Part 135.99, allows a pilot employed by a FAR Part 135 air carrier and serving as second-in-command in a multiengine airplane or single-engine, turbine-powered airplane to log SIC flight during operations that do not require a second pilot. The revised rule also allows flight time gained in a SIC PDP to be used to meet certain aeronautical requirements of FAR Part 61 for an ATP certificate and certain aeronautical experience requirements of FAR Part 135. Part 135 operators that have been issued Operation Specification A062 are permitted to assign a qualified SIC and the SIC will be eligible to log the flight time if participating in the operator’s SIC
