Two of Philippines Leading Pilot Training Academies Sign Partnership for Simulator Training

Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga- It won’t be long before we see the aviation industry rise up and get back on its feet once again. In a press release published by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), global air passenger numbers are expected to exceed pre-pandemic levels in 2024. And if there is one critical aspect to focus on now that we navigate the path towards recovery, that is to make aviation professionals, particularly aviators, ready to support and sustain the industry’s eventual recovery.

Organizations who believe in the resiliency of the aviation industry and are ready to support the industry’s recovery understand that collaboration and leveraging on each other’s strength is the key to speeding up and sustaining its recovery. On 08 July 2022, two (2) leading ATOs in the Philippines- AAG and FAA, inked a partnership agreement for the First Officer Transition (FOT) program– a full Airbus A320 Type Rating program with MCC and JOT designed to equip CPL-IR license holders with all the required elements to qualify for a rating on an Airbus A320. The program is pioneered by AAG and is part of the organization’s flagship programmes.

We are very much delighted that FAA is teaming up with us in producing ‘airline ready’ pilots. This MOA is very timely especially now that we all anticipate the industry’s recovery. I am certain that this initiative will play a key role in enhancing and strengthening the aviation training in the country,” said Capt. Vicente Casibang, AAG’s Accountable Manager and the partnership signatory for AAG.

FAA also expressed its appreciation and excitement on the partnership. In his remarks, FAA’s Chief Operating Officer (COO)- MGen. Restituto Padilla Jr. AFP (Ret) said, “I look forward to seeing more of these- collaborations, partnerships, and alliances happening within the industry in the years to come. This is a golden opportunity to take part in the recovery of the aviation industry. Our team is excited to work hand-in-hand with the AAG team in producing the kind of pilots the industry needs during these exciting times. God willing, there will be more of these in the near future, as we move onward the path towards recovery, and as we help our pilot trainees fulfill their passion and dreams. Maraming salamat sa pagkakataon, and cheers to this partnership!” Also representing FAA were Capt. Jesus D. Madlangbayan, Accountable Manager and the signatory on behalf of FAA, and Mr. Raoul S. Perez, Consultant- PTC Holdings, Inc, who led the drafting and the finalization of the MOA.

The ceremonial MOA signing was concluded by AAG’s Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Mr. Cristopher Magdangal. In his closing speech, he thanked FAA for their confidence and trust in AAG and conveyed his optimism on the partnership between AAG and FAA. He said, “this is a very welcome development as we all move towards the recovery of the industry. As training institutions, we play an important role in triggering growth, not just on the aspect of pilot training, but in all facets of the industry. Since I started working in the aviation industry, consolidation has been one of my advocacies. And that could only happen if there is trust among organizations. So, to our partners in FAA, thank you for the trust. I am optimistic that this is just the beginning of the many more opportunities we can explore together. So, with the best that we can, let’s work together- for our organizations, for our trainees, for the bigger community, and the entire aviation industry.

AXIS 72-500 Full Flight Simulator Enters Service in Ireland

Technology innovator installs another FFS at Simtech Aviation in Dublin

Simulator manufacturer AXIS Flight Training Systems GmbH has installed an ATR 72-212A(500) full flight simulator at training provider Simtech Aviation in Dublin. This is AXIS’ 7th ATR simulator in use and its 4th ATR 72-500 FFS to be initially qualified.

The ATR 72-212A(500) FFS Level D EASA CS-FSTD (A) Issue 2 uses AXIS’ proprietary GNSS HR 1000 solution, as well as many other innovative and proven AXIS design features that give it exceptional robustness and availability. The Moog motion system has 60” electro-pneumatic strokes, and the RSi XT4 visual system with 200 x 45 degree FOV uses Barco FL35 projectors with LED. The simulator has LPV, UPRT, LNAV, low visibility, full stall and post stall capabilities, and windshear profiles for windshear training. It simulates the Salzburg, Mumbai and Manchester airports.

The simulator successfully completed EASA qualification checks by the UK Civil Aviation Authority and the Irish Aviation Authority.

According to Bob Sheehan of Simtech Aviation, “this new FFS will complement the existing AXIS ATR72-212A(600) FFS and provide synergies to boost the training capacity. This is our second AXIS sim, and we’ve really come to appreciate their performance and availability in enabling us to provide first-rate training.”

AXIS COO Christian Theuermann noted, “There is no better proof of customer satisfaction than a repeat order, and we’re delighted to provide Simtech with another high-performance FFS for the widely used ATR 72 family of aircraft. We look forward to continuing to supply training companies with the most advanced full flight simulators.”

Simulator Manufacturer Announces Chinese Regulatory Qualification for Full Flight Simulator at Chinese University

TRU Simulation + Training announced that its Cessna Citation M2 Full-Flight Simulator (FFS) for the Civil Aviation Flight University of China (CAFUC) has successfully achieved Level D qualification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). This is the first Level D Citation M2 Full-Flight Simulator in operation outside of the United States.

TRU Simulation + Training Inc., an affiliate of Textron Aviation Inc., is a Textron Inc. company that designs and delivers high-fidelity training devices and support for civil and defense customers.

“The success of the Cessna Citation M2 simulator program in China is the result of a long-standing relationship between the TRU and CAFUC teams,” said Jerry Messaris, vice president and general manager of TRU Simulation + Training. “TRU’s innovative and customized design, production and support, in addition to the collaboration with CAFUC on the installation and qualification process, ensured the highest quality training device.”

The Full-Flight Simulator, located at CAFUC’s training center in Guanghan City, China, supports the university’s fleet of four Citation M2 aircraft and expands the capabilities of the largest pilot training school in China. CAFUC’s fleet of Cessna aircraft also includes 159 Cessna Skyhawk pistons, the largest in China, and seven Cessna Citation CJ1/CJ1+ light jets.

Equipped with the latest Garmin G3000 avionics, the simulator features Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) aircraft parts throughout the cockpit, ensuring accurate representation of the Citation M2. TRU’s design incorporates the company’s third-generation control loading system that produces a highly realistic flight experience. The full-flight motion of the simulator integrates TRU’s REALCue system, utilizing an electric motion base with 60-inch-stroke actuators, while the visual system is equipped with high-definition projectors on a 200×40 degree display to create an immersive training environment.
A robust, yet easy-to-use Instructor Operating Station (IOS) brings everything together to enhance the instructor’s ability to effectively manage the simulator operation.

The qualification of the M2 simulator marks one of the latest achievements for TRU. In April, TRU’s Full-Flight Simulator for the Cessna SkyCourier received Level D qualification from the FAA. Additional qualifications for other training devices are expected in 2022.
