Pakistan’s Supreme Court has rejected the plea of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to hire 200 staff including 80 pilots. The court questions how the airline will manage the salaries of the staff. Also, according to the court, it comes unreasonable to hire 80 additional pilots when the airline only has 30 planes with already over 300 current pilots.
The counsel for the airline Salman Akram Raja submitted to the court that the airline intends to hire more because it plans to purchase additional five aircraft. Raja further said that the airline could not make recruitment absent permission from the court as the latter had imposed an embargo on hiring in 2018.
The court requested the airline to provide a comprehensive report about the plane routes, business plan, and revenue operation until the first week of 2023.
