CAE Announces Pilot Ab-initio Program and Full Flight Simulator Deployment in Canada
- New B777 full-flight simulator set to enter service at the recently expanded CAE Toronto training center
- Jazz Approach ab-initio pilot training program accepting candidates
CAE announced that it is investing in its Canadian pilot training network to meet the increased demand for pilots with the upcoming deployment of a B777 full-flight simulator (FFS) at its Toronto training centre. The move follows the installation and start of customer training on new B737 MAX and B787 FFSs at the expanded Toronto site.
In addition, to meet the future needs for pilots, CAE and Jazz Aviation are now accepting applications for Jazz Approach, an ab-initio pilot training program that provides cadets a direct pathway to a first officer position at Jazz Aviation.
“We’re adding new simulators and essential training capacity to support the increased demand for pilots from our Canadian airline customers,” said Nick Leontidis, CAE’s Group President, Civil Aviation. “Our partnership with Jazz Aviation on the Jazz Approach cadet program will allow us to create a pipeline of pilots for Jazz and provide a new pathway to a dream career. We look forward to making similar programs available to other Canadian airlines soon,” added Leontidis.
In addition, CAE is installing a Dash-8 Classic FFS at its Montreal training centre to better align with demand for training on this aircraft type in Canada.
CAE operates commercial aviation training centres in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, providing leading-edge training to Canada’s airlines.

Netherlands based MPS has been awarded a contract by Jet2.com for an A320 NEO FTD-2. The simulator is expected to be installed at Jet2.com’s training center in the UK in early to mid-2023. The order comes in addition to the previously installed MPS B737 NG FTD at Jet2’s training center in Leeds Bradford, UK.
Jet2.com is the third largest airline in the UK and favored as the premier leisure carrier in the region for low-cost travel. New Batch of Veteran Pilots Take Synthetic Flight Instructor Course (SFIC) at Alpha Aviation Group
Five veteran airline pilots were inducted to the AAGP Synthetic Flight Instructor Course (SFIC) on 09 November 2022 at the AAG Simulator Training Center, in Clark, Philippines, bringing to more than 70 the number of SFIs trained since the course was rolled out in 2016.
The latest version of AAG’s SFIC introduced a couple of years ago can be considered revolutionary – one among the numerous training programs and courses which went through careful study and enhancement by the AAG Training Solutions Development and Review Committees (TSDRC).
Experienced pilots wanting to level-up their game as aviation professionals will find AAGP’s SFIC as a most suitable training solution.
On top of the hard skills necessary to develop trainees’ competencies as instructors, the current SFIC provides additional focus on the learning process, teaching and feedback techniques in classroom (including distance/blended learning modality), simulator and real aircraft environments.
The SFIC does not only include review lessons on Airbus operational philosophy and aircraft systems. More importantly, the course covers lessons on teaching and learning, Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBTA), Human Factors for Instructors, and CRM for Instructors.
Perhaps the most game-changing component of the course are the Role Playing Workshop and the 16 hours of Role Playing Sessions during which the competency of trainee-instructors in developing or applying appropriate instructional techniques are tested using a simulated A320 Type Rating Transition Course session scenario.
